Step inside Headley Chase: Where heritage meets modern country living

News / 7 November 2025

The brand-new showhome at Elivia Homes’ Headley Chase development in Surrey is more than just a house – it offers a glimpse into a new lifestyle. Designed by Abode, the showhome is a masterclass in balancing timeless style with modern family living, bringing together heritage-inspired elegance, natural textures, and thoughtful touches that make every room feel like home.

We sat down with the team at Abode to discuss the new showhome, their inspiration and how you can emulate the design in your own new home.

Inspired by heritage and nature

The interiors at Headley Chase take inspiration from their idyllic surroundings. The showhome feels timeless yet contemporary, blending heritage luxury with the beauty of the outdoors.

“Our inspiration was about creating a sense of heritage luxury while bringing the outdoors in,” explains the designer. “We imagined a family moving from London – perhaps second-time buyers seeking more space, a stronger sense of community, and a connection to nature. The two children’s bedrooms were designed for a teenager daughter who plays tennis at the nearby Banstead Downs Tennis Club, and the younger son who loves exploring in the neighbouring Tyrells Wood.”

The result is a home that feels instantly welcoming, with a heritage farmhouse aesthetic complemented by soft modern touches, layered textures, and natural materials throughout.

Designed for modern family living

Every space has been thoughtfully considered to reflect how families live today. The open-plan kitchen and dining area forms the heart of the home, with curved bench seating that creates a sociable, flexible space for cooking, entertaining, or simply spending time together.

A built-in storage unit in the dining room makes hosting effortless, while the living room fireplace and bespoke shelving add warmth and a striking focal point – features that bring character and comfort to modern homes, and which may not be on offer in smaller London properties.

“When designing for this type of family, it was important to create spaces that encourage connection,” says the designer. “We wanted areas that work just as well for everyday family life as they do for entertaining or special occasions.”

Heritage farmhouse with a modern twist

The overall theme can be described as heritage farmhouse luxury – a refined yet relaxed style that feels both classic and contemporary. The design incorporates antique-inspired accessories and artwork sourced from local antique shops to reflect the area’s charm and history.

Subtle trends feature throughout ensuring the traditional aesthetic is relevant and achievable for today’s homeowners. Curves are an emerging trend in interior design, which has been reflected in the kitchen bench area, bedroom headboard and sculptures throughout the home. Other trends include stripes (a trend that is here to stay) on fabrics and upholstery, nodding also to countryside design, and faux beams add a sense of traditional craftmanship and authenticity.

Sophisticated style meets everyday practicality

While the interiors exude style, practicality has been built into every corner. From clever storage and a cosy reading nook away from the main living space, to versatile seating areas that adapt for family life, the home has been designed to be as functional as it is beautiful.

“Our goal was to design a space that feels luxurious but provides families with what they actually need to live comfortably. Every element - from the furniture placement to the lighting - has been considered to enhance comfort and flow.”

A serene retreat

The main bedroom is a particular highlight in this home – after all, the people using this room are the ones buying the home. With a dark, panelled feature wall and soft, sheer curtains surrounding the bed, the space combines depth, warmth and tranquillity. It’s a perfect example of how considered design can create a sense of calm luxury.

Recreate the look at home

For those inspired by the Headley Chase showhome, the design team recommends taking a thoughtful approach to interiors:

  • Take your time: Live in your home before making big design decisions – it helps you understand how each space should work for you.
  • Curate over time: Mix new and antique pieces for a layered, personal look that tells your story.
  • Shop sustainably: Pre-loved furniture and accessories from antique stores or online marketplaces add character, depth and are better for the planet.
